Hello, friends! 👋
You’re doing amazing, and I’m so proud of your progress so far! 💛
Today, we’re going to explore a small but interesting pronunciation tip that’ll make your Korean sound even more natural!
🔍 Today’s Rule
When ㅎ (h) is followed by ㅇ (ng),
➡️ the ㅎ sound disappears in pronunciation!
Yes, that’s right — the ㅎ gets dropped and becomes silent.
🧠 Why does this happen?
The ㅎ sound is a light, breathy sound.
When it's followed by a smooth sound like ㅇ, it often becomes too soft to hear — so in real speech, it just disappears.
This makes the sentence flow more naturally and is easier to pronounce quickly.
📘 Examples
Word Hangul Written Pronounced As Meaning
좋아요 | jo-ha-yo | 좋아요 | 조아요 (jo-a-yo) | I like it / It’s good |
괜찮아요 | gwaen-cha-na-yo | 괜찮아요 | 괜차나요 → 괜자나요 (in fast speech) | It’s okay |
하얗어요 | ha-ya-heo-yo | 하얗어요 | 하야어요 (ha-ya-eo-yo) | It was white |
Notice how the “ㅎ” sound disappears or gets softened.
🗣 Practice Time!
Try reading these out loud:
- 좋아요 → 조아요
- 괜찮아요 → 괜차나요
- 하얗어요 → 하야어요
The smoother you say it, the more natural you’ll sound!
Keep it up — you’re becoming a Korean pronunciation master! 🌈✨
See you tomorrow with another helpful tip! 💪😊
