thanks2korea 2025. 4. 7. 10:28

Hello again, language explorers!
You’re doing great—keep it up! Today, we’ll learn another super useful Korean pronunciation rule that makes spoken Korean sound more natural and fluent.

🔍 What’s the rule?

When the final consonant of one syllable is ㅂ (b/p) and the following syllable starts with ㅁ (m),
the ㅂ changes to ㅁ in pronunciation.

This is another case of nasal assimilation (비음화 bieumhwa) in Korean!

📘 Examples

Korean Pronunciation Meaning
밥맛 (bap + mat) 밤맛 [bam-mat] Appetite / Taste of food
담밥 (dam + bap) 담맙 [dam-map] Rice in a container
앞문 (ap + mun) 암문 [am-mun] Front door
잡몹 (jab + mob) 잠몹 [jam-mop] (Imaginary word for practice)

🧠 Why is this important?
• It helps you understand native speakers better.
• Your own pronunciation will sound more natural.
• You’ll start to “think like a Korean speaker.”

🗣 Practice Time!

Say these out loud and pay attention to the [mm] nasal blend:
• 밥맛 → [밤맛]
• 앞문 → [암문]
• 담밥 → [담맙]

The more you practice, the smoother and more natural your Korean will sound!

You’re doing amazing—see you again tomorrow for more!
화이팅! (Hwaiting!)
