Hello, everyone! 😊
Welcome back to another fun day of learning Korean!
Today, we’ll explore a cool pronunciation rule that helps your Korean sound more natural. Let’s take a closer look at what happens when ㅎ (h) meets ㄷ (d/t) or ㅌ (t).
🔍 Today's Rule
When ㅎ is followed by ㄷ or ㅌ…
➡️ The ㅎ sound disappears
➡️ The ㄷ or ㅌ becomes a stronger sound – ㅌ becomes ㅊ, and ㄷ becomes ㅈ
This is called a consonant aspiration rule, and it makes your Korean speech smoother and more native-like!
📘 Examples
Word Hangul Pronunciation Meaning
못해요 | 못해요 | 모태요 (motaeyo) | I can’t do it / I’m bad at it |
좋다 | 좋다 | 조타 (jota) | It’s good |
같이 | 같이 | 가치 (gachi) | Together |
밭이 | 밭이 | 바치 (bachi) | Field + Subject particle |
See how ㅌ turns into a ㅊ sound? And 좋다 sounds like 조타?
🗣 Let’s Practice Out Loud!
Try saying these aloud:
- 좋다 → 조타
- 같이 → 가치 → 가치 → 가치
- 못해요 → 모태요
Sounding better already, right? 😄
Great work today! These little changes may seem tricky at first, but they make a big difference in your speaking. Keep it up, and I’ll see you again tomorrow for more Korean fun! 💪✨
