Hello everyone!
You’re doing an amazing job coming this far in your Korean learning journey! Today, we’re going to look at another very useful pronunciation rule that will help you sound more natural when speaking Korean.

🔍 Today’s Rule

When the consonant ㅎ (h) is followed by ㅂ (b) or ㅍ (p) in a word:

➡️ ㅎ disappears, and ㅂ/ㅍ becomes a stronger sound, like ㅃ (pp) or ㅍ becomes more aspirated.

This is because the soft breathy sound of ㅎ combines with the following consonant to create a stronger or clearer sound.

📘 Examples

Word Hangul Pronunciation Meaning
합법 합법 합뻡 legal
잡히다 잡히다 자피다 to be caught
높히다 높히다 노피다 to raise (height)

You can see how ㅎ is not pronounced on its own and the ㅂ/ㅍ sound becomes clearer or stronger.

🗣 Pronunciation Practice

Try reading these out loud:
• 합법 → 합뻡
• 잡히다 → 자피다
• 높히다 → 노피다

Keep practicing, and your Korean will sound more and more natural!
See you tomorrow for another fun pronunciation tip! You’re doing great!
