Hello, friends! 👋
You're doing an amazing job so far, and today we’re going to learn another useful pronunciation tip that will help you sound more natural when speaking Korean!

🔍 Today’s Rule

When ㅎ (h) is followed by ㅈ (j)

➡️ ㅈ becomes the stronger sound ㅊ (ch)!

So even though the spelling doesn’t change, the pronunciation becomes stronger.

🧠 Why Does This Happen?

Korean loves smooth pronunciation!
When appears before certain consonants like , it makes them stronger.
This change is called aspiration. You’ll also remember this from earlier lessons like:

  • ㅎ + ㄱ = ㅋ
  • ㅎ + ㄷ = ㅌ
  • ㅎ + ㅂ = ㅍ
  • ㅎ + ㅅ = ㅆ

And now, ㅎ + ㅈ = ㅊ!

📘 Examples

못잊어 mot-i-jeo 모찧어 (mot-chi-jeo) can’t forget
같이 gat-ji 가치 (ga-chi) together

Even though it's written with a ㅈ, you’ll hear a ㅊ sound in fast or natural speech!

🗣 Practice Time!

Let’s try saying these words out loud:

  • 못잊어 → mot-chi-jeo
